Started off this year’s KQED CAP Retreat on the right track: with a quote by bell hooks, “What We Do Is More Important Than What We Say We Believe”. (Thanks to Christine Padilla and Yo Ann Martinez for facilitating!) To this, I’m adding another favorite bell hooks quote: “The heart of justice is truth telling, seeing ourselves and the world the way it is rather than the way we want it to be.” #celebratingBlackhistory
I feel so fortunate to be part of the KQED family, “to use our collective power to amplify voices and lift up the stories of our communities.” (CAP Scope) On a personal note, KQED/PBS through Sesame Street was one of my first teachers growing up in the Philippines. I probably would not have developed a diverse and inclusive worldview early on if not for this groundbreaking series 🙂 I’m so excited about the work ahead, and I love how each step we take eventually takes us home.
