On Friday, October 25th at 7:30pm, Filipino-American mezzo-soprano Carmen Edano and Lisa Sylvester will premiere the new art song “Balikbayan” (my third collaboration with 2024 Raymond W. Brock Prize winner Saunder Choi!) at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music as part of the Prima Voce Emerging Artists series. Tickets are available here.
From Saunder Choi: “Balikbayan” specifically refers to Filipinos who have ventured abroad then return home after some time, a narrative all too familiar and meaningful to me. Aileen’s words evoke such poetic longing for roots, origins, home, and the idea of returning.”
